Accessibility

Last updated

Many of our readers are in their sixties, seventies and eighties. Back Then Daily is built so that everyone can read and use it comfortably, whatever their eyesight, hands or device. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we’ve done

  • Readable text. No text on the site is smaller than the browser’s standard size, and you can enlarge every page with your browser’s zoom without losing anything.
  • Strong contrast. Our colors are checked against the WCAG contrast rules, in both the light and the dark version of the site.
  • Easy to tap. Buttons and menu links are at least 48 pixels tall, so they’re easy to hit with a finger.
  • Keyboard friendly. Everything works with a keyboard alone, with a visible outline showing where you are, and a “skip to content” link at the top of every page.
  • Nothing that moves on its own. No videos or sounds start by themselves, and no bars stay stuck to the screen while you read.
  • Described images. Photos carry text descriptions for screen readers, and tables have proper headings.
  • Dark mode. If your device is set to dark mode, the site follows it.

What we’re still working on

Ads are made by other companies, and some of them may not meet the same standards. Some older documents we link to, like scanned catalogs, are images without text. If something gets in your way, please tell us.

Tell us about a problem
